Bonds: A&B and K&L
Bay View was built in 1950 & serves 370 students.
In 2016, after almost 20 years without a Bond investment, the school needed help. Teachers, students, staff, parents & neighbors prioritized the need for modernized classrooms, new roofs, expanded & improved play areas and an upgraded multi-purpose building. We're well into the work of rejuvenating Bay View and it's all thanks to you.
The Work.
Built: 6 New Classrooms
With Bay View occupying a number of portables that had aged beyond their lifespan, the school desperately needed new, permanent classrooms.
Measure B allowed the school to build new wing of classrooms replace aging portables with energy efficient & spacious learning environments with the same upgraded ventilation, insulation and technological infrastructure with which we modernized existing classrooms.
Remodeled: Entrance, Office & Classrooms
To revitalize our campus entry and repair this first-impression point in the neighborhood, we built a new face for Bay View to greet students & a green bio swale retention pond for better water stewardship.

We also were able to modernize wings of classrooms - installing modern heating and cooling, efficient lighting and wonderful learning spaces for our students.
Achieved: "Net Zero"
Thanks to the incredible support of our community, Bay View is projected to be Santa Cruz' first Net Zero Energy Usage school. This was achieved through the installation of extensive Solar Panels, energy efficient lighting and HVAC, improved insulation and more!

Bay View Bond Site Committee
Bond work is informed by the local input of the Bond Site Committee, which is usually made up of families and staff. The Bond Site Committee meets regularly with the Bond Core Team who plans and undertakes work with the Architect & Contractor, and plans for work and strategic direction is presented to the Santa Cruz City Schools Board of Trustees for approval. The Bond Site Committee is a vital part of the process, discussing and reporting the needs and want of the school community.
