CTE FEATURE STORIES:
CTE Welding Award
October 2024

This month our CTE Welding Instructor, Laurie Hilderbrand, was awarded a $50,000 check from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools! Congressman Jimmy Panetta was in attendance to present the award. Over 900 applicants competed for this national award. The prize, was created to recognize excellence among high school skilled trades teachers, a group of educators who are frequently overlooked and underappreciated. The mission of Harbor Freight Tools for Schools is to increase understanding, support and investment in skilled trades education in U.S. public high schools.
Laurie Hilderbrand is an outstanding teacher who is serving as a role model for women in skilled trades. While located at Soquel High School, her class is a magnet class which attracts students from across the county. Congratulations to Laurie!
CTE/IB FILM
January 2024

For the past two years Harbor High School CTE/IB Film students have traveled to Paris, France to participate in an international film competition. This year all three Harbor production teams turned out excellent films. One film was recognized by the jury for best sound (top 3) and best film (top 3). One of our teams won "the audience choice" award, which was amazing. It was the most authentic of awards as the jury was the audience at the screening. They brought home a beautiful trophy and an autographed sketch from Animator and Director Glenn Keane, the keynote speaker at the event.
