SANTA CRUZ CITY SCHOOLS

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Santa Cruz City Schools District. We have many opportunities for you to share your passion by supporting our students and schools, and helping where you’re needed most. Options include: classroom aide, food service, life lab, and coaching.

How to Volunteer:

Step 1: Reach out to a school

Call the school office of the school you would like to volunteer at to determine what volunteer opportunities are available. School office phone numbers can be found on out Santa Cruz City Schools website under the tab, “Schools.”

Step 2: Complete the Volunteer Agreement Form

After you have determined what school and position you would like to volunteer for, you need to complete the Volunteer Agreement Form. All fields of the form must be completed.

Step 3: Get Approval from an Administrator

Once you have completed your Volunteer Agreement Form, bring it to the school office to be signed by the Principal, Assistant Principal, or in cases of volunteer coaching, the Athletic Director.

Step 4: Bring the Signed Volunteer Agreement Form to the District Office

After your form has been approved and signed by an administrator, bring the form to the District Office, located on 133 Mission St., Suite 100, Santa Cruz. Our office is open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Please bring a form of identification and a recent (within the last three years) negative Tuberculosis test result. If you do not have a recent TB test result, a form can be provided for you at the District Office to provide TB clearance. Acceptable forms of identification are:

  • Driver's license or ID card issued by a state or outlying possession of the U.S. provided it contains a photograph
  • ID card issued by federal, state, or local government agencies or entities provided it contains a photograph;
  • School ID card with photograph

  • U.S. Passport with photograph
  • Alien Registration Receipt Card with photograph

Step 5: Get a Live Scan Form (Fingerprints and Background Check)

We are required by the California Department of Education to fingerprint and background check every employee and volunteer who enters our district. Even if you have been fingerprinted for another district you must still be fingerprinted for Santa Cruz City Schools, as it is prohibited to share this information between districts.

A Live Scan Form will be completed and provided for you at the District Office by a Human Resources staff member.

Remember: In order to get the Live Scan Form, you must bring your signed Volunteer Agreement Form, an acceptable form of identification, and a recent negative TB test result, if you possess it.

Step 6: Complete Live Scan at County Office of Education

Take the Live Scan Form provided to you by Human Resources, along with an acceptable form of identification, to the County Office of Education, located at 400 Encinal Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. There is no charge for the Live Scan; Santa Cruz City Schools covers the cost of every Live Scan. You may drop-in for your Live Scan between the hours of 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. You may also make an appointment by calling (831) 466-5750.

Santa Cruz City Schools Human Resources will be notified electronically by the Department of Justice and FBI.  Once clearance is provided by the agencies, the Human Resources team will call or email the site and the volunteer to notify you when you are cleared to volunteer.
